Howard County
A little known fact, the county was originally named Richardville, with a history of its own, too lengthy to write about here. The county was renamed Howard County in 1844 to commemorate General Tilghman Ashurst Howard. The largest city in the county and the County Seat is Kokomo. Well known for it’s natural gas boom, the city became a “City of Firsts.” It was a pioneer of the U.S. Auto manufacturing and the location of many inventions from the first pneumatic rubber tire to stainless steel tableware to the first corn picker, and so much more. Of course, there is a lot of ‘bull’ to be seen at Highland Park along with many other interesting objects and artifacts of the city and the county.
