Daviess County
Named for Maj. Joseph Hamilton Daveiss, the U.S. District Attorney for Kentucky, killed at the Battle of Tippecanoe in 1811, The county came into being in 1818. The county’s largest city and the County Seat is Washington. The railroad was built through Washington in 1857 as a major Depot and repair yard, which during its time kept over 1000 people employed. There is a significant population of Swiss Amish residents in the county. There are 13 properties and districts in Daviess County that are listed on the National Register in the county. Perhaps the most recognized landmark in the county is the T.C. Singleton Round Barn.
