Boone County
Founded in 1830, Boone County was named for Frontiersman, Daniel Boone. Lebanon, the County Seat was named by a pioneer settler who saw a stand of Hickory trees on the site and was reminded of the Biblical ‘Cedars of Lebanon’. The Courthouse in Lebanon is noted for its single piece vertical Ionic Order Limestone columns, once believed to be the largest in the world. The larger city of Zionsville is also in the county and is known as a tourist attraction which is centered on its ‘village’ styled downtown area. The main street, paved entirely in brick, is lined with Boutique style shops and eateries. Their July 4th Fireworks show draws people from across Indiana.
