Lake County
Lake County is located in the extreme Northwest corner of Indiana. The West borders Illinois and the North borders Lake Michigan. The major cities and towns in the County are Gary, Hammond, Highland, Schererville, Merrillville, Crown Point, Cedar Lake and Lowell. Lake County is the second most populated County in Indiana but even with all the residential areas, the Southern part of the County has a lot of farmland. The Southern part of the County was extensively ditched and drained creating fertile farmlands. In the early days of Indiana, the Kankakee River was a vast wetland covering most of the Southern third of the County.
