Fayette County

Named for the Marquis de la Fayette, who was a Frenchman honored as a hero of the Revolutionary war,  Fayette County was actually created from portions of Franklin and Wayne Counties along with the purchase of some new territory.   Connorsville became the first and only incorporated town in the county, and is the county seat.  While the county was historically significant early in the 19th century and also the early 20th century when it was an automobile manufacturing center, it is now in economic decline.  The  landscape is very rural being used mainly for farming.  There are no major roadways here as all accessible state roads are narrow 2 lane roads.  Some might call it ‘quaint’.
